WHEN
YOU ORDERING WIRING HARNESS FOR YOUR TRUCK PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT FORD
HAD DIFFERENT PLUGS AND CONFIGURATIONS ON HARNESS. HERE WHAT YOU NEED
TO LOOK FOR ARE THESE POINTERS:
STARTING WITH THE LONG HARNESS THAT CONNECTS FROM THE MAIN CAB HARNESS
AND GO TO THE TAIL LIGHT HARNESS. THE 1973-77 HAD PLUGS LIKE THE
PICTURES SHOWS BELOW.

NOW
IF YOU HAD THE 77 1/2 TO 79 YEARS YOU WOULD SEE PLUG INS LIKE THIS
PICTURES BELOW. WHAT YOU WILL SEE IS THAT FORD WENT TO A RECTANGULAR
TYPE PLUG AND THEY INCLUDED THE BRAKE SWITCH WIRES IN THIS TIME. NOTICE
IN THE TOP PICTURE THE BRAKE WARNING WIRE HARNESS IS SEPARATE.


NOW
WE MOVE TO THE MAIN CAB HARNESS WHICH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT HARNESS
BECAUSE ALL THE OTHER HARNESSES CONNECT TO THIS ONE IN THE CAB. LET
START WITH DASH INSTRUMENTS FORD HAD TWO SETUPS IN THIS AREA YOU HAVE
ONE OF THE TWO INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS, ONE WITH FULL GAUGES OR THE OTHER
ONE WHICH HAD A GAS GAUGE AND A TEMP GAUGE AND A WARNING LIGHT FOR THE
ALTERNATOR AND ENGINE OIL. NOW AGAIN YOU NEED TO LOOK AT WHAT YOU HAVE
BECAUSE FORD PULLED A FAST ONE AGAIN. THERE WERE ABOUT FOUR DIFFERENT
STYLES OF PLUG INS FOR THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ASSY. BELOW ARE SOME
PICTURES OF WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT HERE.


THE
PLUG ON THE VERY LEFT IS TO THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WITH THE WARNING
LIGHTS ON 76-79
THE PLUG IN THE MIDDLE GOES TO THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WITH FULL GAUGES
LIKE IN THE PICTURES BELOW



NOW THE PLUG ON THE RIGHT PICTURE GOES TO
THE EARLY 73-75 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WITH FULL GAUGES. FORD ALSO HAD A
SHORT PLUG LIKE IN PICTURE ONE ABOVE BUT I DON'T HAVE ONE IN STOCK TO
TAKE A PICTURE OF, IT WAS FOR THE PARTIAL GAUGE CLUSTER.
NOW WE
GET TO THE IGNITION KEY SWITCHS, FORD HAD THREE DIFFERENT STYLES FROM
1973-79
BELOW ARE PICTURES OF ALL THREE TYPES FORD USED.

THE THIRD
STYLE SWITCH AND PLUG I DON'T HAVE A PICTURE OF RIGHT NOW SO AS SOON AS
I GET ONE I WILL POST IT HERE.
THE FAR LEFT PLUG GOES TO THE IGNITION BOX
THE NEXT PLUG GOES TO THE ENGINE HARNESS PLUGIN
THE MIDDLE PLUG GOES TO THE TAILLIGHT HARNESS
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST THE NEXT SMALL GREEN PLUG GOES TO THE SIDE
MARKER LIGHT AND THE PARK LIGHTS.
AND THE LAST PLUG TO THE RIGHT NOT SURE ON THAT ONE.

1 HOLE= NOTHING
2 HOLE= RED WITH BLACK STRIPE WIRE
3 HOLE= SOLID BLUE WIRE
4 HOLE= SOLID DARK GREEN WIRE
5 HOLE= YELLOW WITH BLACK STRIPE WIRE
6 HOLE= SOLID WHITE WIRE
7 HOLE= NOTHING
BOTTOM ROW LEFT TO RIGHT
8 HOLE= LIGHT GREEN WITH YELLOW STRIPE WIRE
9 HOLE= WHITE WIRE WITH BLUE STRIPE WIRE
10 HOLE= DARK BLUE WITH WHITE STRIPE WIRE
11 HOLE= NOTHING
THE ABOVE IS THE WIRE PLUG CODE FOR THE 73-77 TURN SIGNAL SWITCH WHICH
DOES NOT COME WITH A NEW PLUG FROM FORD, SO YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE OLD
PLUG AND INSERT THE NEW WIRES INTO THE OLD PLUG ABOVE IS THE PICTURE
AND BREAK DOWN OF HOW THE WIRES GO IN.
